Elden Ring DLC: How To Maximize The Power Of Anvil Hammer? - A Comprehensive Guide Elden Ring DLC: How To Maximize The Power Of Anvil Hammer? - A Comprehensive Guide

Introduced as a Colossal Weapon in the Elden Ring in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the Anvil Hammer is a weapon that is used to attack enemies. Although its attack is a bit slow, it makes up for it with its huge damage output, strong damage to enemy stances, and decent AoE. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of how to use the Anvil Hammer in conjunction with other items to maximize its effectiveness.

Pros And Cons

Pros

  • Extremely High Stagger Damage
  • Highest combined AR of any weapon (unbuffed)
  • AoE Weapon Skill

Cons

  • Very heavy (22.0)
  • Slow moveset

The power of Anvil Hammer lies in its ability to output huge amounts of damage and has high poise damage, capable of breaking down almost any boss’ defenses in 2-3 regular hits. Whether it is a light swing, heavy attack, charged attack, or weapon skill, the purpose of every swing of the hammer is to achieve a stance break. If the player can use this hammer against some of the tougher enemies in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, such as Curseblades or Fire Knights, they will be stunned.

Elden Ring DLC: How To Maximize The Power Of Anvil Hammer? - A Comprehensive Guide

Best Stat Distribution

When you have collected enough Elden Ring Runes and are ready to upgrade, it is recommended to first increase the core attributes of Anvil Hammer, Strength and Faith, with Strength being more important than Faith. To use this weapon effectively, you also need to invest in Intelligence and Dexterity, although this will not significantly increase the weapon’s damage output.

Besides Strength and Faith, the remaining attribute points are best allocated to Vigor to increase health, or to Endurance to increase stamina and carry weight. Raising Mind to 25 is enough to get a lot of benefit from the weapon skill Smithing Art Spears, as it only costs 18 FP to activate.

After reaching level 150, the major goal is to improve Strength to 80, and Faith and Vigor to 60 each to complete the build. If the weight of the equipment is an issue, adding some Endurance is also a good choice until you find an armor that fits your equipment.

Best Talismans

Elden Ring Golden Braid

When Two-handing Anvil Hammer, the effect of Two-Handed Sword Talisman is activated, increasing damage by 15%. The +15% skill buff provided by Shard of Alexander ensures that Ash of War: Smithing Art Spears can almost kill with one hit. Two-Headed Turtle Talisman is a game-enhancing trinket that allows players to regenerate stamina at an amazing rate, which is a tremendous help when each swing of the hammer requires a lot of stamina.

Erdtree’s Favor buffs bring an overall boost to HP, Stamina, and Equip Load. Depending on the situation, it can be swapped with Spelldrake, Flamedrake, Boltdrake, Pearldrake +3 Talismans, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talismans, or Golden Braid. There are a few other situational options to consider.

  • Crimson Seed Talisman +1 increases the healing of Flasks by 30%. This is especially useful when Vigor is over 60.
  • Verdigris Discus can turn a high equipment load into a defensive advantage.
  • Great-Jar’s Arsenal can be a temporary measure to solve equipment load problems caused by insufficient Endurance or wearing heavy armor.
  • If you plan to use Anvil Hammer in combination with a shield for Guard Counters, Curved Sword Talisman is essential.

Best Seals And Incantations

Given Anvil Hammer’s tendency to buff Faith, it would be a shame if players didn’t take advantage of the powerful incantations they have that meet the stat requirements.

Best Incantations

Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength, are solid choices for improving damage output and defensive capabilities. Anvil Hammer is one of the few weapons in Elden Ring with inherent Fire damage, making it a superb choice to take advantage of the fire damage boost after the buff.

Other options include Electrocharge, which passively increases the player’s attack damage when holding Anvil Hammer in both hands; Pest-Thread Spears, which provides a ranged attack that is almost impossible to miss; or Fire Serpent, which is an affordable strategy for fighting nimble enemies.

Elden Ring Golden Vow

Best Seal

Which seal to choose to use with Anvil Hammer depends on the incantations you need to use it with. If you’re unsure, Clawmark Seal is a good choice, as it’s designed for this kind of Strength/Faith build.

Best Crystal Tears

Flask of Wondrous Physick is mainly used in difficult boss fights to improve the player’s chances of victory. Therefore, the best Crystal Tears to use in combination with Anvil Hammer are:

  • Deflecting Hardtear can enhance spontaneous guard in mixed physick for 5 minutes.
  • Greenspill Crystal Tear can temporarily boost stamina in mixed physick for 3 minutes.

The focus here is Deflecting Hardtear, a timed block mechanic in Elden Ring that allows the player to deal extra damage by counterattacking if they can prepare their defense before the enemy attacks. The player does not have to use a shield with Anvil Hammer.

Just hold the weapon with both hands and press the guard button to block the incoming attack. When Anvil Hammer is used as a shield, it can negate 80.0 physical damage, which is more than enough for this purpose.

Players can choose any item they like to replace Greenspill Crystal Tear, but the +15% base stamina bonus is very helpful for retaining enough stamina to defend after being attacked.

In summary, according to the above guide, players can maximize the utility of Anvil Hammer to achieve better results in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This comprehensive strategy will help players make full use of the power of Anvil Hammer, overcome challenges in the game, and continue to advance in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring DLC: How To Build Star-Lined Sword In Shadow Of The Erdtree? Elden Ring DLC: How To Build Star-Lined Sword In Shadow Of The Erdtree?

Star-Lined Sword is one of the standout katana swords in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, especially for those looking to build a Tarnished with Dexterity as a core attribute and some bonuses from Intelligence. Combat with this sword made of stellar bodies is not only effective but also visually stunning.

If you’ve recently started using this sword, or you’re still planning how to build your character around it, there are a few key points to note. Star-Lined Sword’s high dex scaling, fast katana attack animations, and its unique Ash of War skill all make it faster by giving it additional buffs when using Ash of War attacks quickly.

Here are some tips to help you build your character around Star-Lined Sword in Elden Ring. For new players who are less confident, you can use Elden Ring Runes to improve your equipment and abilities to ensure your character can use this sword to its full potential.

Elden Ring DLC: How To Build Star-Lined Sword In Shadow Of The Erdtree?

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Onze’s Line of Stars has impressive ranged attack capabilities.
  • This weapon is more suitable for one-handed builds.
  • Build up blood loss.
  • Can deal magical damage.
  • Excellent in roll catching.
  • Incorporates unique moves of the Katana.

Cons

  • In close combat, its attack range may be insufficient.
  • Because of the low strength gain, it is not recommended to operate it with two hands.
  • When facing many bosses, it may be difficult to fully utilize the full potential of Onze’s Line of Stars.
  • In battles with Tarnished enemies, Onze’s Line of Stars is not the best choice.

Star-lined Sword is a special Katana that not only deals magical damage and builds bleed, but also has a powerful Ash of War. The key attribute of this sword is Dexterity, followed by Strength and Intelligence.

Ash of War unique to Star-lined Sword is called Onze’s Line of Stars, and it is unique in the way it is activated. Once triggered, this Ash of War will perform two large-scale attacks in front of the player. Furthermore, this skill can be activated twice more, with each attack dealing increasing damage until the ultimate attack teleports the player into the air for a fierce overhead slash.

While Star-lined Sword is aesthetically pleasing and has powerful attack moves, it does have some flaws. It has a relatively short range for a katana, and doesn’t work well as a two-handed weapon because of its low strength scaling.

Additionally, its unique skill, Onze’s Line of Stars, takes a long time to complete a full combo, so while it’s great against poorly balanced humanoid enemies, it’s less useful against bosses that don’t give you enough time to complete your combo. Often, players will use the first two attacks of Onze’s Line of Stars, and rarely use the ultimate attack when there’s not enough safe damage to deal.

Given that Star-lined Sword is more suited to being a one-handed weapon, that means you can equip another weapon to make up for its shortcomings. So, the next question to consider is, what secondary weapon should you choose?

Best Shields To Use With Star-Lined Sword

Elden Ring Brass Shield

When considering pairing with a one-handed weapon, choosing to use a shield is usually not the best choice. For example, shields such as Brass Shield or Wolf Crest Shield can block almost all physical attacks when defending, and have extremely high physical resistance, which can effectively prevent Tarnished from taking damage when blocking.

Given that you already have high Intelligence to use Star-Lined Sword, you may consider temporarily replacing your main-hand weapon with a staff to cast Scholar’s Shield to enhance the shield’s effect, and then switch back to Star-Lined Sword to fight.

Best Staves To Use With Star-Lined Sword

Elden Ring Scholar's Shield

You can choose any staff as a secondary tool, because your character build is still mainly centered on Dexterity-heavy. Therefore, the spells you cast are mainly for ranged attacks and some utility purposes, such as Scholar’s Shield. This makes Carian Regal Scepter and Carian Glintstone Staff your best choices, as they both have good intelligence scaling. If you want to use more blade sorceries like Carian Piercer, then Carian Glintstone Staff would be a good choice.

If your Intelligence is around 40, but below 50, then Carian Sorcery Sword is also worth considering for your build. While you probably won’t use the sword as much, it’s good enough to outperform other staff options in Intelligence.

However, if you want to level your character past level 150, you can invest 70 points each in Dexterity and Intelligence, and a few more points in Mind to help with casting spells. Here, Lusat’s Glintstone Staff and Academy Glintstone Staff will be your best options for dealing damage. These staves will also increase FP cost of spells, so make sure you invest enough points in Mind to easily cast spells and deal damage with Ash of War of Star-Lined Sword.

Best Katanas To Use With Star-Lined Sword

Elden Ring Moonveil

It’s also a good idea to have another katana as an off-hand weapon. That way, you can unleash more powerful combos in melee combat. Based on your stat distribution, with 70 Dexterity and 40 Intelligence, your best off-hand katana choices would be Moonveil and Sword of Night.

Moonveil matches Intelligence and Dexterity very well, and it also has a strong Ash of War that can be used when needed. Moonveil can deal more bleed and magic damage than Sword of Night. This means that if you plan to add buffs through magic, such as using Magic Scorpion Charm talisman to buff Star-lined Sword’s magic damage.

Then Moonveil will be a better off-hand choice because it will give both of your katana a significant damage boost. With Onze’s Line of Stars and Transient Moonlight equipped, you will be able to effectively deal with mid-range combat challenges.

If you need to face enemies with shields or need a better weapon in player-versus-player (PvP) combat, Sword of Night will be a more suitable choice. Sword of Night has useful combo attacks, including Witching Hour Slash into an uncharged heavy attack.

When fighting other Tarnished, you can use Sword of Night with both hands and unleash fierce attacks when your opponent least expects it. And when you want to use Onze’s Line of Stars to control the situation or deal with multiple enemies at once, Star-Lined Sword becomes your ideal choice.

After reading all the above, pick up Star-Lined Sword and bravely face the challenge of Elden Ring!

Elden Ring: Follow This Route To Unlock All Available Black Knight Gear In Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC Elden Ring: Follow This Route To Unlock All Available Black Knight Gear In Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

In this guide, I will show you where to get all the items that Black Knight has in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This includes their entire Armor Set, Black Steel Twinblade, Black Steel Greathammer, and Black Steel Greatshield.

While you may see some incantations used by one of Black Knights, those are Crucible incantations, so they are not true Black Knight items.

I’m guessing there must be a lore reason for Black Knight to use a lot of Crucible incantations, but that’s not what we’re going to discuss right now. Here, we’re going to focus on showing you where to get these items in the new expansion.

Before I get into it, I have to tell you that Armor Set can only be obtained through farming, but I’ll show you where you can do that. But for the weapons and shields, you have to defeat some specific Black Knights, and they will drop these items when they die. Importantly, they don’t respawn on the map, which means these items can only be obtained once per new game cycle.

Elden Ring: Follow This Route To Unlock All Available Black Knight Gear In Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

Black Knight Armor Set

The best place to get Black Knight Armor Set is in Castle Ensis. First, all you have to do is get to Castle Ensis Checkpoint Site of Grace. It’s easy to get there from the castle entrance, and there are so few enemies on the way that you can run past them without any problems.

When you see Black Knight, just turn left and go uphill, and you’ll see Site of Grace, which will be your starting point. Then all you have to do is stand up and watch when Black Knight walks down the ramp. It’s up to you how you want to approach him, either just rush in and do a jump attack, or you can even backstab straight away.

Kill him and check the loot. If Armor Set didn’t drop, you need to return to Site of Grace and repeat the farming. The entire process is that simple.

I need to remind you that Armor Set will not necessarily drop directly after killing Black Knight. If you want to increase the drop rate, then investing in some Elden Ring Runes to increase Item Discovery is a good way to go.

Killing him is not difficult because his attacks are easy to read. When he does a powerful heavy attack that creates a Holy Area of Effect, you just need to dodge to the right and you can Backstab easily.

Oddly enough, he attacks faster with Greatshield than with Greathammer. Luckily, if he doesn’t have hyper armor when he does a heavy attack, a hard hit to his head will stagger him most of the time. This differs from all the other enemies in DLC.

Black Steel Greathammer

Anyway, now let’s check where to get the weapons, starting with Black Steel Greathammer.

It’s actually pretty easy to find the location. It’s located in Church of Consolation at the southernmost end of Gravesite Plain. When you get to the church, a dog at the entrance is hostile, but the other Messmer soldiers are not. Then, you just need to kill Black Knight in the ruins and you’ll immediately get Black Steel Greathammer.

Elden Ring Black Steel Greathammer

Black Steel Twinblade

The same goes for the other weapons and greatshield. So, to get Black Steel Twinblade, the target you need to kill is in a small camp on a hill in Scadu Altus.

To get there, we’ll start at Highroad Cross Site of Grace and head north, toward the large camp. I recommend you stick to the ridge to the left of the camp to avoid angering Furnace Golem.

Turn left as far as you can and you’ll see a few soldiers defending the camp, with Black Knight at the very top. We need to try to kill every soldier that makes it to the top, but be aware that at some point, a few Shadow Blessing level characters will be killed.

The easiest way to do this is to get on Torrent, get Black Knight’s attention, and have him follow you to the back of his unused camp. There, the archers can’t hit you, and the melee soldiers will most likely lose aggro.

You probably know that this Black Knight wields Black Steel Twinblade, so he’s a bit more aggressive than the ones wielding the weapon and greatshield. Defeating him will earn you his Twinblade.

Elden Ring Black Steel Twinblade

Black Steel Greatshield

Now, Greatshield isn’t too far from this location. You can access it from Fog Rift Fort. To get there, first you need to get to Scadu Altus on the map, which is West Site of Grace.

From Site of Grace, look west and under the wooden platform to see a small patch of land that you can jump down without taking damage. There are two similar patches of land that will allow you to quickly reach the walls of Fog Rift Fort.

Before you go down the ladder, be aware that there are 4 soldiers and a bunch of explosive barrels below. You can take advantage of this if you want, otherwise they might target you.

After you take them out, go through one of the towers. Keep an eye on the left, because there is a soldier waiting to ambush you. Take out the two soldiers inside, then go out to find the last soldier, who is enjoying the view. Help him see the ground below in true 3D format, then turn east to the small bridge, where you can see Black Knight in the building ahead.

I need to remind you that before you approach, prepare your buffs. He fights exactly like other enemies that use weapons and greatshields. The difference is that he will try to attack you with spells. By the way, unfortunately, there is no such spell available to players in the game. After killing him, you will get Black Steel Greatshield.

Elden Ring Black Steel Greatshield

With this, we have found all Black Knight items you can obtain. Trying to follow this route to loot these items will not only open up new possibilities for your character, but it will also bring new fun to your open world journey. Good luck!

Elden Ring: A Step-By-Step Guide To Easily Defeat Mohg In Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

Reaching Mohgwyn Palace

First, I’m going to show you how to get to Mohgwyn Palace. There are a few ways to get there.

Visiting Consecrated Snowfield

If you’re in the late game or have already finished the main game, you can visit Consecrated Snowfield where you can reach this location. There, you’ll find a portal that takes you directly into Mohg’s realm. From there, you can easily climb up to Palace to find Mohg.

Finding Secret Medallion

If you can’t access Consecrated Snowfield area, then you will need to get Secret Medallion. This Medallion consists of two parts.

Then walk to the right, where you will see a pot. If you hit the pot, there will be a man inside. You can kill him or talk to him, and then you will receive the first part of Medallion.

For the second part of Medallion, you can go to Castle Sol and find it in Mountaintops of the Giants. There you must defeat the final boss. After defeating him, you can take the elevator up to Castle, where you will find the second part.

Then you have to go to Grand Lift of Rold. When Hoist Medallion option appears, do not activate it, but switch to Secret Medallion, which will unlock Consecrated Snowfield area.

Elden Ring: How to get to Mohgwyn Palace?

Completing White Mask Varre Questline

Now, if you haven’t gotten that far yet, or you’re starting a New Game, there’s another easy and quick way to get to Mohgwyn Palace.

That’s with the help of White Mask Varre NPC. You’ll find this NPC at the beginning of your journey. You don’t necessarily need to talk to him at that point in time, but later on, after you’ve progressed a little through the game, you’ll find him in front of Rose Church.

There, if you talk to him, he’ll give you a couple of Festering Bloody Fingers, and these will let you invade other players. Anyway. You don’t need to actually win the battle. You just need to invade three times.

If you talk to Varre again, he’ll offer Lord of Blood’s Favor. This is the cloth item that you need to soak in Maiden Blood. This quest will feel like trying to complete a scavenger hunt designed by a psychopath.

Anyway, the quickest way to get Maiden Blood is to go to Church of Inhibition. When you get there, you’ll be invaded by an enemy, and you can either defeat him or run past him and get Maiden Blood.

Finally, return to Varre and offer your Finger. If you immediately talk to him again, he’ll give you Pureblood Knight’s Medal. This item allows you to teleport directly to Mohgwyn Palace.

Farming Weapon

Now let’s talk about how to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood. You can use pretty much any weapon, but I find that Ranged Weapons make it easier.

The best early weapon I found was Halo Scythe, which is really good. It releases a circle of shimmering auras that hover for a moment before slamming forward and slamming into the enemy’s face, as if deciding which unfortunate soul to bless with holy damage.

To find Halo Scythe, head to Inner Aeonia Site of Grace. There will be some Knights spawning in the middle of the swamp. You have to defeat them to have a chance to get the weapon dropped.

The drop rate is pretty low right now though, and it took me about 2-3 hours to get this drop. So I would recommend investing in some Elden Ring Runes to increase your Item Discovery to get it faster.

But luckily, they also drop their armor pieces. So while farming for weapons, you’ll also get the best defensive gear in the early game.

Heading To Swamp Of Aeonia

Next, we need to head to Swamp of Aeonia. An easy way to do this is to go directly from where you start the game, and then go to this location on the map with the old ruins.

The thing to know is that there are two entrances here. You have to find the one with the rats in it, and then go directly to the chest. The chest is a trap that will teleport you to a mine called Sellia Crystal Tunnel. You don’t need to defeat anything here. Just keep running and then go down into the mine. Once you exit, you’ll be in Swamp of Aeonia.

Upgrading Your Weapons

Now, whatever weapon you’re going to use to defeat Mohg, you’ll need to upgrade it. Here, we need to upgrade our weapon, Halo Scythe, and as long as it’s upgraded to at least +8, you can beat this boss relatively early.

Boss Battle Strategy

During the boss fight, Mohg will deal a ton of damage, and there’s no way to avoid it other than to keep drinking Healing Potions. Not only will he regenerate his health, he’ll immediately become more aggressive and start spewing red flames everywhere.

This phase is particularly frustrating, and every time you think you’ve mastered their moves, they’ll pull off a new trick and suddenly you’re back to square one. There is a solution, though, and that’s to get Purifying Crystal Tear.

How To Find Purifying Crystal Tear?

To get this Crystal Tear, you’ll need to complete Yura Questline.

Go to this location on the map near Murkwater Cave under the river, and enemies will invade you. Shortly after the enemies appear, Yura will appear to help you out. You can either let Yura do all the fighting, or you can step in and help.

After defeating this enemy, continue down the same path, and you’ll find Yura on the right. If he’s not there, you can go to Sites of Grace to rest up first, then come back and talk to him. You’ll find him in front of the main gate of Raya Lucaria Academy.

Go up to the bridge and you will find a red summon sign. Press it and you will have to help Yura invade and defeat the enemy. After that, Yura will be in the same place on the bridge. Talk to him and he will reward you with some Smithing Stones.

Then, you will also find Yura in Second Church of Marika. You will find him lying on the ground, dying. Talk to him and as soon as you finish, an enemy will invade you. If you defeat this enemy, you will get Purifying Crystal Tear as a reward.

You can add this Crystal Tear to your flask. When you fight Mohg, drink the flask before he starts to launch a large attack or when his health is halfway. This will remove his debuffs and allow you to enter when he launches an attack to cause more damage.

All in all, this Purifying Crystal Tear will allow you to win this battle easily. Of course, if you are very good at the game, you can beat him without Crystal Tear, but it will make a huge difference.

Outro

As far as I am concerned, with these methods, we defeated him very easily without even using any summons. I just kept my distance and let Halo Scythe do the work for me. With this guide in hand, you can do the same easily. Good luck!
