Elden Ring: Master These Tips To Improve Your Item Discovery Rates
Apr 23, 2024

Source: MMOWTS

In this guide, I will discuss how to increase Item Discovery rate, a stat that is used to increase the rate at which defeated enemies drop items. Follow this guide so you can use this information to help you farm for items that you actually want to use in your build but that it simply won’t drop.

Item Discovery Explained

First, let me show you all the information I’ve got on Item Discovery and the tricks that can help you accomplish your daunting task.

Regarding Item Discovery itself, it is actually very easy to understand. It is a stat that controls a multiplier variable that is calculated along with the value of items that enemies can drop. You can view the value of this stat on the character information screen.

Each point in Item Discovery is equal to a 1% increase in the value of that part of the formula that calculates the drop rate. The formula is a bit complicated. It’s more than just dividing Item Discovery value by 100 and multiplying it by the drop rate value to come up with the new drop rate chance.

If you want to keep it simple, you can do this. But keep in mind that the actual value is lower. But increasing your Item Discovery does increase your drop rate. Therefore, it is worth increasing it before officially starting farming.

How To Increase Item Discovery Rate?

There are three ways to increase Item Discovery rate in the game:

  • Add Arcane attribute of the character
  • Consume Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot
  • Equip Silver Scarab Talisman

Perhaps there could be equippable items like weapons or shields in the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that could boost Item Discovery rate. But so far, these are the three existing ways to increase Item Discovery in the base game.

Arcane Attribute

First, I will introduce Arcane. To increase it you need to level up, so I don’t think this method helps at the beginning of the game unless your build uses Arcane.

Each Arcane level earns you 1 more point in Item Discovery. But if you want to farm an item, and you’ve defeated Rennala at Raya Lucaria Academy, you can use her to reset your attribute points, as long as you have some Larval Tear.

You’ll want to make sure you have two of these, one to reset your build to increase Arcane as much as possible, and one to reset back to the original build.

With that in mind, I’d say to you that increasing Arcane levels to increase Item Discovery is the best outcome for mid-range game characters, as a lot of attribute points need to be invested to have an impact. But don’t focus on this approach early in the game.

Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot

Secondly, Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot is basically our primary method to improve Item Discovery rate. Because it can be obtained early and can be used in any farming session, whether early or late game.

This is a consumable item that can be crafted. It increases Item Discovery rate by 50 for 3 minutes. To get its recipe, go to Smoldering Church between Limgrave and Caelid. There are two corpses in the ruins, one of which has Missionary’s Cookbook [3], a key item in unlocking the crafting of Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot.

Elden Ring: How To Craft & Use The Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot?

The recipe for Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot is: 3 Rowa Fruits, 1 Silver Firefly and 1 Four-Toed Fowl Foot. Don’t worry, these materials are readily available just outside of Limgrave or Liurnia of the Lakes.

Of course, you can also choose to spend Elden Ring Runes directly from merchants to buy the items you need to speed up your game process. With these tips, you can find yourself some excellent sources of Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot.

Silver Scarab Talisman

Now we introduce the last item that can promote Item Discovery, Silver Scarab Talisman. Unfortunately, it’s only obtainable in the late game, so you can’t expect it to be useful during early game farming.

It is located in a catacomb called Hidden Path to the Haligtree. You need to obtain two Secret Medallions to open the secret passage to Haligtree.

Once inside Hidden Path Catacomb, you can notice that part of the railing is broken. You can jump down an invisible path and walk around it. You can throw Rainbow Stones to see where they can and cannot be stepped on.

If it’s floating, it means Rainbow Stones are on a walkable surface. But if it falls far and breaks, that means it’s an absolute no-no.

Luckily, these invisible platforms are actually pretty easy to predict. Because these invisible platforms have a T-shaped shape that goes from one arc to another on the wall.

Now look south and across this arc and you’ll see a white glowing plant. Behind this plant, there is an illusory wall that you can attack or roll over to reveal a secret passage.

The chest in this new passage contains Silver Scarab, which increases Item Discovery by 75 points. Now all you have to do is get out of there without dying.

Outro

Regardless, when you want to farm items, equip Silver Scarab Talisman, consume a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot, and respawn with the maximum number of Arcane points if you can afford it. This way, your maximum Item Discovery will be 324 points.

That’s it! I hope this guide is useful to you. Have a nice day!
